what are you smoking?
What exactly are you smoking anyway?

A) how can it save "$billions" if all you are doing is transfering "$billions from "too poor" Bill gates to the pockets of developers?" ?

B) Governments are already converting to Linux just as many many businesses are.

C) again what are you smoking?

Actually I view a distributed, non central linux as one of Linux's many strong points. Having many distrobutions with many different types of apps in each of them and different versions of libs provides huge dificulties in creating a virus/worm that can propagate on all of them. Having a non central linux allows distros to specialize in certain fields...and if one fails they don't all fail. I would gladly pay for top quality configuration systems that get users our of the age of using emacs and vi on config files in /etc regardless of who builds it...even MS. You need to think of Linux the kernel as a highly adaptive small unit of a larger picture. It can be adapted into any environment and expanded to fit anywhere. Even proprietary makers can plonk their binaries on top of a linux kernel. It isn't about OSS development being pure...it's about the standard that linux has already created by having a common kernel across many different types of systems. A non bloated nearly virus free kernel. If MS where to have taken the courts seriously I probably would've gone back to MS software as they too would have a small common thread that can be expanded and built upon and used by anyone....breaking free of the restraints and lock ins that proprietary systems have.
