smarter? Really?
You do have to be a bit smarter to work on linux but to call all MS people stupid, is stupid.

It actually is not a matter of intelligence, but understanding. When a system's administrator really understands what the system is doing, then he can really be productive in his work. Linux people, usualy have passed through Windows and Unix systems before stationing in Linux and have to deal with the three systems in a regular basis.

Some will prefer Unix (since that's where they started), some will prefer Windows, since it's way "easier" (though you may hit a couple brick walls from time to time), and others will prefer Linux, but as long as you have people who can work them three, you are on the winning side.

MCSEs don't fully understand what's going on in the system and they only know one platform, so all the solutions they can provide will obviously revolve around that one platform they know. A matter of intelligence here would be if those MCSE people are content with only knowing half the equation and making less money than what they could if they also knew another platform like Unix or Linux (or Cisco as you point out)... More knowledge usually means more dollars in your pocket wink

Windows enjoys the gift of "ubiquity". It simply is everywehere, so obviously people will focuse on that to learn a computer platform, however as the world has more and more exigencies, especially in security areas and/or stability or mission critical systems, Unix and Linux are being more and more deployed to these conditions, even Linux has started to take some ground off Unix systems in this department. And more common tasks are being moved to these systems...

So you don't have to like something to work with it, as long as you like what you do, and in the IT world that means working with computers, despite their OS wink
