If the only way that you can listen to your music is by using players that support DRM then the entertainment industry will start to punish any one that uses software that gets around it. Couple of problems with this.

Just so we're clear, lets call "software that gets around (DRM)" what it's called in the DMCA: a circumvention device.

Circumventing DRM technologies is a crime, and Hollywood already is trying to punish device traffickers albeit with mixed success: Johansen, Skylarov, 2600.

Also, you started out talking about circumvention and ended up with nonsupport. You should have ended with, "Expect the Entertainment industry to go after companies such as HP because they sell Linux machines that circumvent DRM."

Switching from DRM circumvention to DRM nonsupport as if they are the same is sneaky.

The reason Hollywood's not going to go after HP of course is because HP doesn't traffic in circumvention devices.

If they could make the case that Linux is a circumvention device, I'm certain they would. But they would also have made the case that Windows is, too, because as many in here will tell you there aint nothin' you can do in Linux that you can't do in Windows.
