Re: What would happen if there is no DRM in OSS
wonder what would happen in this case ? Users will no longer be able to view a legit copy of their own DVD on it.

Users have always been constrained to view their legit DVDs on licensed players. The OSS libs that allow viewing them on Linux probably are illegal. Nothing new here.

User can no longer user a Linux desktop to connect to any legal service that allows the purchasing and downloading/playing of digital music.

Name me a legal, US-based service that will allow a Linux user to set up an account and start downloading major label files. Just one. Nothing new here either.

Talk about stopping any sort of Linux-on-the-desktop movement in a heartbeat.

Yup. So? Remember, the whole point of DRM technologies, supported by law, is to raise the price of consuming media. Linux users aren't immune. Everyone who wants to engage in the DRM'd marketplace will have to pay for Windows. Do you think its an accident? Do you think that Linux could have done something different?
