REPEAT: Revenues up, profits down!
Tic is right on the money. The real story is that MS is losing it. They are selling more and enjoying it less. Products like Linux and OpenOffice.org are forcing them to cut killer deals with key clients and, in the process, wiping out their profits. In the future lies much more of the same. And that is why their stock price is going nowhere. They are at their nadir as a corporation, and ahead of them lies a steep, slippery slope ... down. Tough luck for MS. They don't realize it yet, but their development model has been out innovated. They are struggling to catch up, with gimmicks like shared-source, etc., but it is too little, too late. Their future does not look good.
