i would suspect .net was not available when amazon's system was originally built. maybe not even j2ee. i think this is more of an effect of poor software engineering support from management (i.e. growing a complex software system too far and too fast) than an effect of linux.

not different from being highly dependent on microsoft or any of the other unix platform, or developers who are conversant in any one particular tool or environment.

if amazon saved $17 million in 2001 alone, i hope they would be able to hire more developers. or at least better compensate those who are being over-worked.
