What a lovely idea... but this is the real world
The problem with that is that if you have a small company and your opinion is in the vocal minority, they'll just say fine, we don't need your business that much anyway. Then you HAVE to find another vendor, who may be no more willing to switch than who you started with.

Now I HAVE been pretty vocal with my major software vendor about making their software more platform independant, and they DO have long term plans to do just that. But it takes time, and just dumping them because they do rely on MS software now and probably for at least 4 more years is just stupid, especially when you know other vendors aren't going to do any better.
