They should make it multiplatform, but...
I can think of two huge barriers they'd have to overcome, which may make it not worth their while.

First, the ideological barrier, of having their software run on something other than their own OS. They already have it implanted in their brains that if they make software for another OS, then they are telling people not to buy THEIR OS. Arguing with them with this is like trying to convince a devout Muslim that Jesus is the true messiah, or a devout Christian that Muhammad is. You?re just not going to get anywhere.

Second, I think there may be a technological barrier as well. MSSQL is written expressly for Windows, and I imagine Yukon (which I?m sure is what they?d like to concentrate their resources on) is being written expressly for Longhorn. Now I?m sure that means there is a lot of interdependancies (and a lot of spaghetti code), which would make it a monumental task to rewrite the same program for another OS, perhaps even making it worse than having to create new code from scratch.
