- I think they make too much our of Red Hat...
-
In the article there was a quote that mentioned percentages of company license revenue. But it omitted the all important detail of how they obtained the stats and how they came to this conclusion. I had an example in another post that stated that in 2005 Red Hat's revenue was $196 million and Novell's was $1.1 billion. If the precentage was based on total revenue, then Novell sold more licenses (around $124 Million for Red Hat and $220 for Novell) based on the percentages they quoted. The point is they did not clearly explain the numbers.
Red Hat was *the* Linux company for a long time and that has allowed them a head start; especially in the US. I may be wrong, but Novell (Suse) leads abroad (but more volume may be sold in the US to make things even). The point being that the article only states Novell plans on executing a buy back plan that they already presented a while back. This is not a sign Novell is failing or tht Red Hat is *the* Linux king. It was purely a financial statement that everyone will jump to conclusions about. Precisely why the article was written. I would bet if you talked to serious Novell stock holders, they would not think anything of this news other than they would expect a change in their current holdings. - Posted by: Physco Dude Posted on: 09/23/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
