- Apple does have a monopoly on Ipods.
-
Not a bad example.
The competitors do not now have a significant share of the market.
Well, there is one difference: other companies are investing to get into the market, and they are likely to become successful enough to be profitable when iPod fades.
There will always be Linux distributions, even when (or if) Linux fades back to being hobbyist software.
But if Linux is to be considered commercial software for commercial application developers etc., and not just a sales tool for IBM et al, then some company or companies have to be in the business of selling it.
If Red Hat finishes the job of becoming a monopoly vendor of Linux as commercial software, then that one company has control of viability. Management mistakes could make Linux as moribund as Netscape. - Posted by: Anton Philidor Posted on: 09/23/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
