- The Red Hat monopoly
-
In 2002 Red Hat had 40% of Linux license revenue and SuSE (call it) 25%, or a total of 65% for the two companies.
In 2004 Red Hat had 63% of license revenue, almost as much as the combined total for Red Hat and SuSE 2 years earlier, and SuSE 20%, or a total of 83% for the two companies.
The share held by every other company receiving Linux license revenue declined from 35% to 17% in only two years.
If that doesn't sound like an accumulating monopoly status for Red Hat, what would?
The source quote:
Novell holds second place in the Linux market to Red Hat, but by Maynard's estimate, has been losing market share. From 2002 to 2004, Novell's share of Linux license revenue dropped from 25 percent to 20 percent, while Red Hat's increased from 40 percent to 63 percent, he said. - Posted by: Anton Philidor Posted on: 09/22/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
