MS was selling it at a loss for $40 the XP/Office combo
Obviously, they decided to take a loss in the Thai market, the other markets (such as the US and European market) will pay for that loss.

When you look at it, it is not reasonable to sell software at US prices in countries such as Thailand/South East Asia and for that matter, Russia where most people can't afford to spend nearly a months salary (or more for them) for the OS and Office. The same argument goes for the Mac which costs even more. I do not believe that MS would be able to sell such software for a profit for a decade or perhaps longer in such countries so there really isn't any business reason for them to do so. Is it so hard to believe that possibly, just possibly that MS would throw them a bone? Of course you would not think so, you all think that it is Bill Gates reacting in fear of the approaching open source menace. Get serious.
