Inevitable
MS?s market position has to erode. It?s unsustainable.
You?d be reading the same thing if either Mac or OS2
had the market position that MS has.

No company has ever been able to maintain a
monopoly without the express legalization by the gov?t;
like you power or gas company or the cable company.

Open Source (read Linux) does not have to be better
than MS products in order to compete. It only has to
do what the users need it to do. As long as that
happens, Open Source's lower cost will gain it market
share.

My guess is that MS will eventually have to lower prices
quite a bit. The price pressure will probably be most
felt in the enterprise licensing area and the possibly in
the area of smaller purchases of Office. It seems that
MS?s sale of the educational version of Office, with a
pretty clear idea that the license will be abused, is an
indication of future price pressure.

I think that the article is incorrect, as it implies that
corporations have not adopted Linux. The success of
IBM, HP and others in selling Linux servers to
corporations would contradict that.
