So even after 1000s of man-hours wasted in re-re-...repatching and reinstalling MBs of 'patches' and the computation and communication resources lost due to viruses, the MS platform comes out to be cheaper?

If you truly believe this, then go ahead and throw your money out of (MS) windows. A recent article claimed a 55 BILLION $$$ cost incurred from the latest viruses. Altough this figure may be slightly inlfated I believe that it is not far from the actual one.

Even if there was no cost due to the viruses on the MS platform, the cost of down times for repatchings, reboots and reconfiguarations, the cost to use MSCEs is still very high and, more inportandly, they are not REAL engineers. Decent Unix/Linux admins usually know WELL what they are doing. MSCEs know how to navigate menues.

Go ahead and make your pick and also use common sense to judge the statements made by MS or any company for that matter.
