Microsoft is not too proud to learn hard lessons.

When the company announced the change in stock option compensation, the company acknowledged that the market had changed. Now, instead of being driven by software upgrades only, Microsoft requires sales expertise.

That means advancing sales executives to increase their impact.

Part of the general change from software as profit contributor to software as support. The growth Microsoft has been able to maintain is remarkable.
