The compeling reasons to pay MORE $$$ to MS is

Office 12 users will immediately notice big changes to the look of Office programs, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

So people will pay MORE cash to get a different look for office apps? How much will it cost to ... see different colors and icons?

Geee, why wouldn't then start using OpenOffice and have the benefit of the $ZERO cost?
