No, I don't think so
I haven't purchased a new PC every year since the days of the Pentium I; it doesn't really make me any more productive and so just isn't worth the effort. One of my workstations is a 1.5 GHz unit that is 3 years old. I won't upgrade it until the 64 bit dual core units come out in greater numbers (and lower prices).

Does the common man/woman WANT Vista. No, they have other more important things to want which is why MS sales figures for Windows 98/XP were disappointing. Vista for most people is a nice if you get it on a new PC, but as long as what they are currently using runs the software that they need they probably won't upgrade the OS.

It's the same thing that you and I have said to the Linux folks.
