We have two Macs and two PCs with 22" LaCie ElectronBlue CRT
monitors, and Blue-Eye calibrators. The calibrators work fine on
the Macs. They never worked on the PCs, even with the latest
software from LaCie. We then went to Monaco EZ color, with
their colorimeter, and that did not work either. Now we use the
GretabMacbeth Eye-One 2. It works with some of the Dells, but
not with others, especially not with LCD monitors. Of course, we
had to reinstall Windows every time we installed a new color
profiler, as it was impossible to uninstall the older one
completely.
We tried to created a profile on one PC for our Microtek 9600XL
with SilverFast Ai, with an IT-8 target, but that was not
completely succeful. It worked fine on the Mac.
We work in and embed the Adobe RGB (1998) color profile, our
images are screen-based, not printed, so we don't use CMYK.
We sometimes convert to SRGB for web display.
We calibrate our monitors every week, the software has a
reminder. We do some occasional print work, and have SoLux
lamps and three Pantone color guides handy.
And I've read Real World Color Management cover-to-cover. And
keep it handy.
Don't assume too much.
