Not really...
because most people really don't know the difference between "want" or "need", and often interchange the words. They really don't care about how secure the OS is unless they are among the unfortunate victims that realize their system has been compromised, counted among the users who "have a clue", or have freinds that fall into one of those categories. As long as it works, most people are happily ignorant, and would prefer to stay that way.

It's more about satisfying the Magpie personality, and getting that flashy, shiny, whatever it is. You see this every time someone releases a new version of OS or application, such as when XP was released. People "needed" to upgrade their PII 450 box to XP, because they "needed" the new desktop and media player. Of course then they call you because they "need" to get their 7-year-old scanner working in XP, because they "need" to scan the pictures from the fishing trip last week and can't understand why it worked under Windows 95 but not XP. They just "want" it to work.
