No you don't know about RDBMS
Using SQL products for years won't teach you. I used SQL products for years and it was only by taking the time to read about the theory that I came to understand the relational model, and how deficient current implementations are.

The mathematical theories are simple, elegant and usable, it is the products that have failed to implement them properly that are complex, hard to use and riddled with compromises and inconsistencies. Practicality certainly overrides the need for any more SQL based DBMSs.

Using most contemporary SQL products is like trying to hammer a square peg into a round hole.

If we take a critical stance to vendors we will force them to improve their products. MySQL didn't have referential integrity until the latest version. It was only customer complaints that made this happen as the management of MySQL, in there ignorance, were convinced that integrity constraints "are not necessary".

I would really recommend that you take the time to understand the theory. It is well worth the trouble. I would suggest starting with Chris Date's "Database in Depth".
