Server Wars coming up!
I've suspected for a while that MS' interest in web search and general hostility to Google is driven by Google's efforts to create an platform-independent web development API, potentially damaging MS business model, which is based on selling compatibility first, functionality second and maybe quality third. MS' biggest fear appears to be that people someday won't have to buy MS software to interoperate with the majority of users, or to run the software they want (already more true than it's been since the late 1980's), which would likely force their market share down to something reasonable (like 30-40%).

Fortunately for the rest of us, MS really can't use the same tactics they used against Netscape, because every antitrust lawyer in the world is watching their every move.

Clearly we live in interesting times.
