Dangers of open source
I hate to say this, but this kind of thing is one reason why open source stuff can be such a pain to deal with. I can't imagine having to go to my boss and tell him, "Gee, we've got a problem, some open source guys just got into a pissing match with each other, and just forked the development of software we rely upon. I'm not sure which one will win or if this software will just die out completely." Look at Gnome and KDE and the differences between them, it's hard to become a desktop-grade OS when you don't have a standard desktop. On the other hand, there's some great stuff out there, Apache, Perl, PHP, MySQL, etc. Those projects I don't see destroying themselves over money or glory, so I don't mind using them in a business environment.
