Protected Video Path
You're quite right with P2P being the driver of broadband, and with the video and music companies closely monitoring P2P as a means of distribution with virtually no cost to them. If they can figure our how to automatically cause an EFT with each music or video transfer, they would be in heaven as they'll increase their profits immensely. It's up to us to figure out how to deny them this method of acquiring their ill-gotten gains, not just because the actual artists get virtually nothing, and not because these middle-people really aren't necessary in the process but have managed to make themselves indispensible, but because it's fun to deny them the profits they so recklessly pursue, and because they're too greedy to begin with. If not us, then who? It would be fine if both Hollywood and the music industry go bankrupt. The music and the films will still get made - they just won't be able to cash in on it so much. Ha ha ha. Seriously, I would "feel" for them if they paid the artists something like 50% of the profits, but the pittance they hand out to the artists is laughable, so if their own greed results in a market that figured out how to the get the product for free or close to free, too bad, that's the down side of the game they play. I have no problem buying something I like - but I won't pay after viewing or watching something I think is garbage. I should at least have the choice of trying before buying. And I believe that is the feeling of many P2P users - they'll check something out and if they like it, they'll go buy it. Sure, a lot will just take, but how's that any different from the people who are pushing the product? It appears the market forced a level playing field and the industry is crying boo hoo because they can't rape us senseless. I'm so sorry. Have you ever seen a record or film company's annual report? They make millions and millions of dollars, and are now crying because they can't make billions and billions. Sympathy for the devil is hard to come by.
