You can thank Microsoft for that.

But honestly it's the progression of things. Look at it with VB to VB.NET. Making a basic data access app for example is low skill. The person with the skill is the designer who tells the developement team what to do. Can a designer do thier work in the US with coders being in India? Sure they can, but I'd argue the quality of work will be less.

Microsoft has made basic, I stress basic here, programming easy enough for a monkey to do. Your innovative developement is still be as it always was but the simple stuff can be done by anyone.
