...SCO might drop this case and start copyright infringment cases against linux distrubutions.

The minute SCO drops this case, their total momentum will be halted. And people will just stop listening to them, let alone take them seriously. Their financial backing will deminish as no company will want to play with the guy_who_called_wolf. And without money, they won't be able to support such cases.

I think IF they want to go that route, they will start them off while this is going on. Depending on how this is going, they will either attach those cases to this IBM one or ask to leave them seperate.

Also, once this case is dropped, SCO will have to defense up against ongoing cases like RedHat's.

No, I think they will keep this alive as long as they can and reap the financial benefits its giving them through the stocks. Once it seems it has reaced the climax (possibly with IBM's reply), they will drop the whole fight altogether as from then on, it will be all downhill.
