I think Google should stay out of the OS business,
It would be too big of a distraction. They would be better off focusing on a browser platform to run thier applications on. Then, it would be trivial to make it work on Linux, Windows, or Mac. They should put some resources into helping Mozilla with XUL and plugin support.
