Cars can be serviced for a long time
The difference is that Detroit continues to make parts for models that are no longer in production, and mechanics can fix older model cars without too much trouble.

If you want to create a similar case, then you would need to add the following constraint:

- Once Detroit changes car models (every 3 - 5 years), Detroit will stop making parts for those older models.
- If there is anything wrong with those older model cars, customers have two "choices"
- Buy a new model car, and, if the same problem exists on the new model car, then the Detroit will fix it on the new model car.
- It is customers' fault that they are driving older cars, so, they will have to live with it.

Nobody should be shocked to find out that all softwares (MS or other origin) have bugs, even significant ones. The issue I have is that we are sometimes foced to migrate to buggy software because older releases will no longer be supported. Isn't it nice that most software companies want to keep only limited number of active versions of products on the field and take the opportunity of releasing a new version of product to announce the end of service for older ones regardless of the stability of the new version? Add the MS license terms that always try to push customers to the latest version, you don't have much of choice.
