- I am a student at Clemson, and they use Freehand as a teaching aid for beginning design because of it's simplicity. Once you advance in the courses Illustrator is used. I think the merger of these to giants will help the graphics community, because of their technology advances combining. Imagine what kind of programs can come out of a mix of Flash, Freehand and Illustrator. The newest version of Flash already has some characteristics of Illustrator, but that is a totally diff. subject.
