The general contractor...

I'm the person that did just that, told the builder m not only to include heating, but spec'd the units used, along with the wiring, where the voice, data, and video drops were to be located, what brands of fixtures to use, and where they were to be located.

In short, I chose a builder that let me do all that, because I wanted to.

Heating/cooling, plumbing, wiring, lighting, walls, pretty much everything.

So, I guess that made me the general contractor. Bad choice of arguments on your part. (nice effort though)

Like I said - you don't like what they do, don't buy their products.

I bet you put diesel fuel in a gasoline powered car, simply because you don't like to be told what types of fuel you can use too.

You are free to vote with your wallet. They are free to listen. You don't like what they do, don't buy their stuff. They don't like like what you suggest, they're free to ignore you.

So, again, they have the right to design their software to require whatever hardware they want.

You're free to buy whatever hardware/software combo floats your boat.
