Two good points.
Yes, Linux can block potential Microsoft sales when it replaces Unix instead.

However, in terms of installations, you too know that the Unix replacements far outnumber the Windows replacements.

And unless Linux jobs pay as much as Unix jobs and are held by people the same age if not by the same individuals, there's a good chance some people are not as well off. Can't call those situations wins for both admins and programmers.


And yes, the Depression was worse hard times than now. I was partly defining hard times as less severe than the Depression, but I didn't say it.

I've heard stories about how a husband and wife working for the same company were called in and told they were now working for one salary, the lower one.
How much worse is it than the story of someone having to train his replacement, who has been imported from another country for the purpose?

The human stories from both times are painful.

I don't blame Linux exclusively or primarily; I can see the larger villains.
