Non-compete clauses may well be standard, but they're also unpopular with employees (for good reason) and they are used by a number of employers as a weapon to be used against ex-employees in an effort to keep others from leaving (as my father discovered a number of years ago when he started his own business). Non-compete lawsuits don't have to be meritorious, or even to prevail if the sole purpose is to damage the target financially. I suspect that Mr. Lee has enough money to hire a good lawyer, but that a lot of other MS-employees burdened by such contracts don't.

I don't think it's fair to claim that anti-MS posters have suddenly turned against non-compete clauses because of this case, since there are lots of other reasons to not like them (the term "indentured servitude" comes to mind). More likely, they're viewed as one more reason to dislike Microsoft, as if there weren't enough already.
