I agree with the "you shouldn't rip of customers" but Microsoft makes how much percentage on each copy of Windows?

As for the hundreds of dollars, that includes a year of their "click-n-run" service with includes the use of non-GPL'd software. Personally, I think the click-n-run is a good idea although I don't know of any free services that do the same thing.
