You have to understand that they aren't selling software, they are selling support services. If are capable of getting the software to work on your own with no help, then by all means download the free versions and do it. What Red Hat banks on is that there are enough companies out there who would rather outsource their some of their IT needs than take care of it all in house.

And actually they are right. Most companies WOULD rather have a vendor they can call to create a solution or fix their computer problems than do it in house. They'd rather have their own employees work on building their business and have a vendor fix anything outside of that. All companies have electricity and plumbing, but how many have their own staff electricians and plumbers?
