Lawyers cost, but not as much as you seem to think. True, SCO is dancing around, trying to get the court to postpone Red Hat's suit until the IBM case is settled, but continuances don't cost that much. Red Hat will likely recover its costs, if there still is a SCO to pay the damages after IBM gets done with them - remember they're facing patent infringement charges in addition to the other messes they've gotten themselves into.
