5.0 alpha was released a couple weeks ago and ZDNet is just getting to the story?

When 5.0 hits the streets you're going to see a serious increase in MySQL adoption. It's already kicking the crap out of Oracle and SQL Server, adding stored procedures is only going to accelerate the trend. The more I use MySQL the more I'm impressed with its capabilities. PostgreSQL is also pretty good, but doesn't seem to have the name recognition. The visual management tools aren't quite as good as Enterprise Mangler, but when you consider the price difference and performance ratio it's a no brainer.

You'll be finding a bunch of 6.5 and 7.0 licenses in the dumpster before long.
