It;s 2004, and now they've got stored procedures. Wow!
It think MySQL is cool, but this is an example of open source technology that is simply just well below the state of the art.

Don't get me wrong. If MySQL's cost advantage was great enough to offset is feature set, I'd use it.

I think people need to understand the cost/benefits of open source and commercial products.

Not every commercial product is great. Not every open source product is great. And really, a product like MySQL is really all about cost. All the major commercial databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sysbase) are just well ahead technologically right now.
