Utter hogwash....
First of all, right off the bat i have two problems with this article. First, Oracle and IBM are not in the same class as SQL Server 2005. My rep and I routinely talk about the unreal ROI and low TCO of SQL Server 2005. Since we deployed it into production over a year ago, my employees have more time on their hands for other tasks. For example, when large queries are submitted SQL Server 2005 uses artificial intelligence to stretch the query out for as long as an hour in order to allow the employee time to do other tasks. One day I saw 5 of our finance guys at the post office. They told me thanks to the database, "they had plenty of time on their hands". Truly awesome. Secondly, open source databases have no business in the real world. Insecure, unscalable and built for lame languages like PHP, these offerings serve to anger my rep and I. Just yesterday we were discussing MySQL over lunch and the discussion got so heated that the manager came over to talk to us and feel our pain. After we calmed down, we truly realized how bad MySQL was.
