There are more and more high end applications being backed by MySQL and once v 5.0 comes out with stored procedure support you'll see that trend explode.
My first experience with MySQL was when I interviewed with a very big enterprise that used it for all their back end processes. That was a few years ago. It took me by surprise that a really big company, a brand name most of you would recognize, would be using MySQL in the enterprise. Now it's almost a given that my customers will be running it somewhere.
