Open Source not for everyone, but it works for us
Open source databases like mySQL aren't the answer for
everyone but they definitely have their place.

We used mySQL to replace Oracle on our commercial websites
($5M+ sales) a few years ago. The conversion only took about
100 man hours and the money we have saved on licenses is
substantial.

Performance, if anything, is better than Oracle. But to be fair,
we did take time during the conversion to tweak a few things.

If mySQL keeps improving at the rate they have the past four
years, Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft will have to run fast to stay
ahead.
