"Features"?
"Open-source databases are far and away more focused on delivering goods to market, but the big three have exhausted the list of features and are now looking at more automated, simpler and easier to manage databases,"

Exhausted the list of "features"? Absurd. What about view updateability and proper implementation of closure? Actually these things are definitively not "features". If the DBMS doesn't have them it doesn't qualify as relational.

Most of the complexity in the mainstream products (at least from a database designer, programmer and user point of view) has come about from how poorly they have implemented the relational model.

Open source are busy copying the mistakes of the mainstream players and offer just more of the same at cheaper prices.
