Explanation how
"How MS stopping support of 98 FORCES you to buy a new computer?

I have yet to see one of you pathtic trolls answer that question."

That's pretty obvious. With lack of support for old system by its vendor other vendors WILL NOT deliver new software or upgrades to their products on this particular system. there will be no incentive and only open source community will be willing to write software for that OS.

Phase out means phase out.

There is no long term financial gain in delivering software on non-supported OS while backward compatibility may require extra steps (some funcionality/API is available only in new systems).

Example? Here you go: the new iTunes for Windows from Apple runs only on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. No there is no plans for Windows 98/NT/95.

Do you still think that hardware drivers will still be dwritten for Windows 98 or there will be no new hardware coming to market? Architecture is different enough on those systems to convience vendors that it is not worth to write new software for orphaned platform.

People will leave it naturally like they do with older gadgets. Do you see anyone on the street running with that bulky mobile phone from beginning of '90? ...or how many people you see using tape walkman? 90% of people use new solutions and others eventually will abandon their current solutions when something breaks and nobody will fix that or when there is no compatibility with others.

Okay. Now another question. Do you think you are using the same drivers on Linux today that were developed for kernel 2.0? Do you think you would be able to run hard drives in DMA133 mode on Linux kernel 2.0 or 1.0? Good luck if you think so.

And as you can see I am not a troll, but pragmatic consultant (working with Solaris, Linux, Windows and MacOSX).
