Want to work on old products?
I'm sorry, but there is a difference between Microsoft and Google. Who wants to work on old products? How exciting is it to work on the next version of Office? How thrilling is it to work on the next version of Windows? Not very in either case.

All of these Microsoft products don't change much. Backwords compatability kills any major innovating that would go on. People still have to use 10-20 year old code in FAT, FAT32, NTFS, DFS, SMB, FRS, etc and get that to work on the new version. The only new stuff is going to be on the edges and only so many people can work on that.
