- It is simply sad
-
``Microsoft's MSN division released Windows Desktop Search in May, a few months after Google launched its own, called Google Desktop. Windows Desktop Search already has a few features for customizing searches, such as the ability to speed up search results by creating indexes.''
WHOOOOA this is simply ... an outstandingly sophisticated feature! Imagine that it is only year 2005 and we are already talking about ... indices! What a progress! What's next? Use a dbms to speed up queries processing?
``Google, too, has its own API and software developer kit that lets people link Google Desktop to different applications.'' That's another ... remarkable feature ...
``Microsoft scaled back some of its ambitions for search in Longhorn, the next desktop edition of Windows due out next year. But the company still intends to substantially improve the search capabilities of Windows. For example, search results in Longhorn can be saved as virtual folders that are automatically updated to include all items that fit a particular query.''
Yes, please MS don't overdo it, you may pull something. It's good enough reason to switch to loooooonghorn so that one can have some search capabilities for their ... local files... `where did I put the financial data?' How about under ..\financial\.. you are just not mentally fit to give names to files so that you can tell what's in there.
``Once these search capabilities are baked into Longhorn, Microsoft is expected to make APIs available to developers to build customized searches. ''
It's simply sad that the 'Software Giant' needs one more year to bake longhorn ENOUGH so that the desktop search is there..... Other MUCH smaller groups could even write the entire OS in the same amount of time.
But it's understandable since the Mickey Mouse engineers at Redmond cannot take more... They are already overworked running all thse ...VB wizzards.
