Reality check...
We're not subsidizing anything here. MS is trying to head off any world shift to Linux (or OSX or BSD or CP/M for that matter) that would threaten their market share. It isn't costing us a dime. Nor is it benefitting us a penny, but that's not the point. MS will figure out a way to make a BIG pile of money off of Starter edition, no worries about that. Whether Starter exists or not won't change what you and I pay for Windows by 1 red cent.
