RE: I wondered whether Microsoft could succeed...

There is no 'ease of use' issue re:Windows vs
Linux. Current distributions of Linux are
easier to install than Windows, especially when
you factor in all of the work required to
'harden' Windows. Productivity apps, media
players including DVD, CD players and rippers,
database, accounting software, web browsers, IM
software, e-mail clients, contact managers,
development environment and software, server
software, web editors, file transfer software,
etc are included with Linux distros and are ready
to use 'out of the box'. Much of the above are
expensive 3rd party add on software with Windows.
China, Korea, Brazil, and India are investing
heavily in developing Linux and software to run
on Linux. Many argue that Linux has passed
Apple to become the no. 2 OS in use. Continued
development of Linux can certainly be seen as
easing the adoption of Linux outside of these
countries as well. I don't believe that Linux
will 'replace' Windows, nor do I wish it so. It
will and does give business and consumer a very
good alternative to Microsoft and Apple. And
choice IS good, is it not?
