This could be GREAT.
The teachers could submit their own ideas to the online instruction programmers. We might get some really good tutorial systems from this and since there would be no kickbacks to the author or publisher, there would be no reason to push bad books onto students.

It would also facilitate rapid correction of errors and not require that the student buy another book.
