Sorry, but I don't see the advantage of AJAX. And, I do agree that Microsoft will undoubtedly throw in some proprietary garbage eventually, creating further cross-browser compliance issues.

Yes, you can perform asynchronous content loading of a webpage with AJAX, but it does nothing to remedy the cross-browser dilemma.

This is precisely why I finally decided that all of my client side delivery of dynamic web content would be done via Flash, which consumes web services asynchonously. The advantages of doing a web app through Flash are too numerous to mention here, but I would suggest to those of you who are sick of Microsoft trying to hijack the web, use a delivery mechanism like Flash.

Of course, nothing is foolproof. I've had a handful of customers upset with me for requiring them to install the Flash plug-in in order to access my site. Oh well...can't please everyone.
