AJAX is just another javascripted mess...
As the number and variety of agents, browsers, micro-browsers deepends and widens you are seeing all kinds of devices that dont (and wont) ever support javascript, much less a compliant "Web Standardized" version of CSS and XHTML. AJAX doesnt do anything but increase the amount of client-side script thats sent to your typical user, and wont useable by many. What we need is Microsoft to get off their butt and get with the Web Standards world and start building better browsers and tools to support that...not fancy client-side circus tricks!

Matter of fact, Internet Explorer 6 currently is the WORST as regards support of XHTML and CSS, as is Visual Studio 2003 in supporting correct markup. Trying to now patch together layers of JScript and xml and DOM calls on a web page, client-side, not only is a mess, but is a nightmare to manage. If IE and Microsoft cant even get on board with XHTML and Web Standards in their product suite and integrated correctly into their browser, how in the world do they expect to support AJAX???

Beside all this most mobile devices dont support JScript, and more and more hackers are exploiting scripting to hack into your browser...thats why Nortons turns off some scripting elements of your browsers. AJAX may be turned off by default in future versions as security threats increase. Dont even mention proxies that block some scripts and then the fact that 10% of people worldwide have Javascript turned off in their browsers.

Dont get me wrong, its a cool idea and AJAX, like Flash (which can pull XML too) has its place. But trying to hype some client-side web development mess using Javascript, xml, proprietary browser tricks, and xml data pull is not a new technology and not worth the effort in a news blurb.

We are waiting for IE to just support simple CSS and XHTML...just give us the basics, guys, and let us write our own client-side script tricks when we want it!
