H-1B working environment

Most of the engineering groups I've worked for since 1998
have had a large contingent of H-1Bs and green card
holders, young Asian and Russian males. Their culturally-
encouraged antagonism and contempt for women makes
the workplace a constant challenge, and most days provide
at least one disgusting encounter. They are not assimilating
into traditional American culture, but instead are
accelerating the misogynist tendencies inherent in our
current political and military climate. Any complaint I make
is greeted with derision by corporate management, who
believe in the myth of "female over-sensitivity".

I am 63 years old, and have worked in various technology
fields since my days as a summer intern in high school,
when I worked on the original Mercury project. I am
constantly embarassed when reminded that I have spent
much energy encouraging other women to enter
engineering fields and walk past the gender putdowns as
evidence of the maker's own insecurities.

Now we're outgunned; and I refuse to encourage any young
woman to follow her star if it is going to lead her into a
profession where management is no longer interested in
how productive we can be, just how little he will have to pay
for our services.
