Eclipse
One of the benefits of open sorceing Jdeveloper is that it will be beneficial in bringing the product into eclipse. Computer Associates, a vendor providing the tool called Erwin was to bring that product into the Eclipse fold prior to its troubles with management improprietes. I verified a month ago the Erwin went a different path at that point and that the new version is not plugable into eclipes. The rational for that may be rational rose which if you all remember was a part of Microsoft's development tools until managment messed up that relationship along with Crystal Reports. Both those products have plug ins to Eclipse now. In any case, Jdeveloper shows well and its open sourcing means it may plug well into Eclipse which - in spite of flaws - is an inteligent development environment I just cant do without.

So bottom line - it has to be pluggable into eclipes or it doesn't get used. Oracle's Jdeveloper has some nice Faces components being implemented and all those Oracle Forms developers are being re-educated for Faces. Crystal Reports did a wonderful job using Faces for its product and what we found out is that the full blown product from Crystal made things even easier.

So Jdeveloper open source and assuming a plug to eclipes happens quickly, show cases that development tool creating the posability of a Jbuilder plus which would appeal in the same way Crystal does to the specialists who really know that tool rather than those who are competent but not masters.
